Costume Frequently Asked Questions

How much experience do you have?
Each of us (Liam and Arito) has an extensive background in sewing, crafting, and hand-made construction. Between us we have made fursuits, clothing, sculpted in various mediums, and created plushies. We also have nearly half a decade's experience in creating "virtual" fursuits in the 3D environment of Second Life. This has given us a strong grounding in visual design, color theory, proportions, and the intuitive construction of consistent and unified characters. In addition, we are both avid con fursuiters and own suits made by a variety of creators; we are aware, through personal and often painful experience, of what works and doesn't work as far as construction, heat concerns, visibility, and general wearability goes.

What am I getting when I choose a Luskwood costume?
By default, we construct our suits using only high quality materials. We believe that when you skimp on cost of materials, particularly fur, it shows - that's not what anyone wants. Our heads and feet are hand carved from large blocks of foam and are very durable. We use plastic reinforcements in large ears and other feasible locations. Our heads are lined with moisture-wicking material and we use only durable, sturdy zippers. All seams are done using heavy-weight thread with strong zigzag and double-back stitching. We have engineered surprisingly lightweight armatured tail designs. On top of all of this, we offer a generous warranty.

What kind of warranty do I get with the costume?
We offer a 90 day warranty from defects in construction. If anything breaks that shouldn't have, clean the costume and send it back and we will repair it free of charge (does not include negligence). We can perform repairs at a minimal cost outside of this window, see our support page for more information.

Are hands and/or feet attached to the body by default?
Hands are attached to the body by default. Feet are not. If you would like separate hands (to wear as a partial as well) please select that option in the quote form.

Do you use latex?
We can make latex noses and pads by request for an additional charge.

I wanted to get a fursuit made that is based on my Luskwood Avatar in Second Life®, is this okay?
Sure! We consider that fair use of our designs, regardless of who you are going to for the fursuit. As long as you are not selling them you're pretty much okay.

Do I really need a duct tape dummy for a full costume?
Yes, we require duct tape dummies for full costumes for a better fit and for any kind of padding (including digitigrade). If you don't mind a baggy costume, we can work from measurements only.

Do you do moveable jaws?
We can do moveable jaws; simply indicate that you would like one on the quote form.

What about pockets to store things?
In most cases we try to put a pocket in the foot of each of our costumes; the pocket can hold a few cards (hotel, ID, credit). We can make other pockets if you ask.

Do you work with electronics/animatronics in your suits?
Not at the moment, but we are exploring possibilities.

What should I expect if I order a full suit?
Our full costumes normally range from USD$1550 to USD$1650. We require a duct-tape dummy for accurate sizing and concept art with 3 angles. Our basic full suits include: body suit with hidden front zipper; attached hand paws, foot paws and belt-loop tail; and a foam carved head with inner lining.

What should I expect if I order a partial suit?
Our partial (half) costumes normally range from USD$1050 to USD$1150. We require only measurements (no duct-tape dummy needed) and concept with 3 angles for half suits. Our basic partial suits include: arms and legs attached to a lycra or spandex shirt and pants; separate hand paws, foot paws and belt-loop tail; and a foam carved head with inner lining.

Can I order separate costumes pieces from you?
We prefer to create full costumes so as to alleviate color and size matching concerns. Please contact us if you have any questions. Keep in mind that there is a small discount for ordering an entire suit (or a partial).

How will I receive the costume when it is complete?
If you will be attending a convention that we will be at, we will hand deliver the costume to you there. If not, we use UPS for worldwide shipping. We will ship via ground by default, but we can also ship 3 day air (for the additional UPS cost).

What type of payments do you accept?
We currently prefer PayPal for payments, but we can work with you if you are unable to use PayPal.

Do I need to pay extra for PayPal fees?
Nope! PayPal fees are included in our prices.

Do I have to worry about tax?
We add sales tax to every quote for residents of Colorado.
